Trade Risk Alert

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development issued a report on the 16th, stating that the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) will greatly promote the growth of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the region among members of the region and other regional economies.
On the same day, UNCTAD released a special issue of the investment trend monitoring report on the recently signed RCEP, stressing that the agreement will have an important impact on FDI flows and the development of global value chains within and outside the region.
The report notes that RCEP's investment provisions will enhance investment opportunities in the region in the long term. At the same time, the provisions of the agreement involving trade in goods and services, intellectual property rights, and e-commerce will promote trade facilitation, reduce business transaction costs, and help increase FDI flows in the region in the short term.
The report also said that RCEP could further promote FDI flows among members within the region. At present, only 30% of the FDI attracted by RCEP member countries comes from within the region, and there is still much room for growth.
UNCTAD data show that the regions covered by RCEP are the main areas attracting global FDI. In 2019, RCEP member countries attracted nearly 1/4 of the world's FDI. In the past 10 years, global FDI flows have stagnated, but thanks to the strong attraction of China and ASEAN countries to foreign investment, FDI inflows into the region have maintained a trend of almost year-on-year growth.
The fourth RCEP leaders' meeting was held by video on the 15th, after which 15 member states formally signed the agreement. (Xinhua)

Since the beginning of this year, the price of raw materials has risen sharply, sea freight has soared, and the difficulty of finding a box of shipping space has seriously plagued manufacturing companies. The current power curtailment has made companies even worse. Take our company as an example. Since the power limit in early September, the company's production capacity has dropped by about 50% on average every day. Exports have decreased by 0.02 billion yuan. The performance rate of orders in hand is about 50%. New orders were reduced by 10%. These data are the impact of the current power rationing on enterprises. If the power rationing situation is not alleviated, the impact on enterprises in the fourth quarter will be more serious.

Statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show that in the first seven months of 2021, China's cumulative automobile exports reached 1.002 million, an increase of 1.2 times year-on-year, but the month-on-month growth was only 9.8 percent, showing a shrinking trend.
